Be My Eyes is an application that connects blind and visually impaired people with sighted volunteers for visual assistance through a live video call. A blind or a low-vision user may need help with anything from checking expiry dates, distinguishing colors, reading instructions or navigating new surroundings.
Be My Eyes is designed for visually impaired or blind persons. More and more apps for people with visual impairments use artificial intelligence to describe the world. This technology is improving all the time, making the blind and partially sighted more independent with a smartphone in their hand. The app has won several awards, such as the Google Play Award 2018 for the Best Accessibility Experience.
Visually impaired persons can request help from a sighted volunteer, who will be notified on their mobile phone. As soon as a person asks for help via the app, several volunteers receive a message. As soon as the first sighted user accepts the request for help, a live video call is established between the two parties. The sighted helper can now assist the visually impaired person through the user's camera.
The use of Be My Eyes is free of charge.
Be My Eyes is available in multiple languages, including English.
